So close!

The skirt is sewn to the bodice. I only had to fix three places. I'm so bad at machine sewing gathered skirts! Good thing I basted it first.

So, just finishing the waistband with seam binding, finishing the bottom of the bodice placket, and closures! Well, and small side hoops.

One of the fashion plates had matching cuff(s?), and I have time to make it (them?)! I wasn't sure I would, so that's a good thing!

Yesterday was overall a pretty good day. I got home in plenty of time to feed the baby lunch and get her out of the way while M got ready for his interview. I put her down for a nap at 12:30 (interview was at 1), and thought that she had gone to sleep, but as soon as M's interview started she was screaming every 10 minutes.  I basically stood outside her door like the queen's guard for the entire hour of the interview so that whenever she made a noise, I could pounce and get her back down.

M's interview went really well. The panel was engaged and seemed very positive and he had a lot of good feedback. His friend on the inside said that if he hears back by the end of the week, then he's basically in, so hopefully we'll hear something soon.

As much as I tried, the baby didn't actually go down for her nap until 3pm. But, when she was finally down, I actually had time to make a trip to the storage unit and dig up some fabric for the non-embroidered/wearable mockup of the cassock. Took me a good hour of rooting around through various boxes and bins, but I came back with a bolt of black-on-black poly brocade that will do nicely. It's reeeeeally pretty, and I'm hoping there's enough to make something more with it because pretty. I did come across a neat c.1605 portrait of a lady wearing a black on black waistcoat with a plain black skirt and black gown in a different brocaded fabric, which YES.

Anyway, it's very slinky, so I'll probably have to interface all the pieces to give it a bit of body, but that's okay because pretty.

Rummaging through storage completely wiped me out, I totally hit an energy wall. Then I remembered that the baby had had one of her rare nights where she was up a half-dozen times, so I'd actually lost quite a bit of sleep the night before. Ah, yes, that is why it is now impossible to move.

Thankfully, dinner was easy since there was still leftover spaghetti sauce. Made some fresh noodles and we finished off the sauce, and we got four good dinners out of that pot, which was a nice break from having to think of dinners every night. I'll make a soup tonight that will hopefully last a couple of days, too.

Baby went down at her normal bedtime without any fight at all, which was such a relief. I spent about an hour on the couch, looking through my various books at the construction of loose jackets and cassocks, and it seems they were all pretty basic, just outer fabric and lining, with some stiffening in the collar and cuffs and that's it. Should be easy enough!

Taking tomorrow off work since I have a morning OB appointment. Since I have the afternoon free, I'm hoping that I can get the alterations to the cassock pattern finished, and if there's time, cut out the fabrics. Here's hoping.

Ack!

I finished the crossword puzzle today and it said I had a 1348 day streak. But I looked at the stats and it said 34 days. What?!? Actually, I looked at the stats first, so I panicked a little. I know it's small, but I love my streak! I was relieved when it was right on the puzzle.

I looked at all the puzzles, and they have yellow stars. But for some reason, one doesn't have the bars linking the puzzles.

I wrote tech support. Hopefully they can fix it!

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Went home for lunch and Kate ran out and flung herself into my arms. I fed her lunch and put her down for a nap, and then spent 15 minutes looking for my shoes. Turned out she'd hidden them while I wasn't looking. XD

Work was slow, and nosy lieutenant was off, so I got to spend some quality time in the massage chair.

Leftover spaghetti for dinner, so the evening was easy. Kate was cuddly, and went down for the night pretty easily. M and I chatted about the interview and got things ready for it so he'd have less to think about the day-of.

Short day at work today. M has interview #3 this afternoon, so I need to be there to wrangle Kate.

M knew from the beginning that there were to be four rounds of interviews, so fingers crossed he gets moved onto the final round!

After the Hunt, Hoppers, Tron: Ares, Dreams, Predator: Badlands

After the Hunt     HD720p 23MB
Intense trailer for the latest movie directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers, Queer). It's a thriller drama in which a college professor (Julia Roberts) finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield) and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light. Chloë Sevigny and Michael Stuhlbarg are also part of the cast.
It's distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, so after a theatrical release in October it will probably start streaming on Prime soon afterwards.

Hoppers     HD720p 22MB
Funny early teaser trailer for the latest animated Pixar movie, to be in theatres next March. Scientists have discovered how to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals! Using the new technology, Mabel (Piper Curda) will uncover mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined. Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm will also lend their voices.

Tron: Ares     HD720p 35MB
Full trailer for another sequel. Plot summary reads: A highly sophisticated program, Ares (Jared Leto), is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. Jeff Bridges will return, also part of the cast are Greta Lee, Sarah Desjardins, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan and Jodie Turner-Smith. Directed by Joachim Rønning (Young Woman and the Sea, Kon-Tiki, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil).
Starting to look like the average superhero movie.

Dreams     HD1080p 11MB
Trailer from the Czech Republic for the latest uncomfortable drama written and directed by Michel Franco (Sundown, Chronic, Memory). It's about Fernando (Isaac Hernández), a young ballet dancer from Mexico, who dreams of international fame and life in the US. Believing that his lover Jennifer (Jessica Chastain), a socialite and philanthropist, will support him, he leaves everything behind and narrowly escapes death while crossing the border. His arrival, however, disrupts Jennifer’s carefully curated world. She will do anything to protect their future together – and the life she has built for herself. Rupert Friend is also part of the cast.

Predator: Badlands     HD720p 14MB
Alien sci-fi movie set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Elle Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey).
What may make this movie interesting (for some) is the fact that the android Thia apparently is created by the Weyland-Yutani bio-weapons division, hinting at another attempt to merge the universes of Predator and Alien.

Done!

With the bodice, that is. I just finished the bodice beading, and I finished hemming the skirt when Tom got his new cast.

I also wet the skirt to soften the taffeta. Now, I just need to sew the skirt overlap, make the placket, gather it, and sew it to the bodice and do whatever finishing and closures are needed. Not bad!

The weekend was up and down for everyone in the house. Friday night was good - I made a tomato basil chicken dish for dinner and watched the two new episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It had been so long since last season ended that I forgot it ended on a cliffhanger. The second episode was a lot of fun, with a throwback to a TOS character and an easter egg in the form of a voice actor.

Saturday went poorly. The baby was a terror all day long, just one tantrum after another. She refused to nap at all, which made her even more cantankerous. M had a dentist appointment at 11:30, which he slept until just before he had to leave, then he came home and went back to bed until 6pm, which threw off any plans I had made for the day. Once he was finally up, I sent him to pick up the grocery order from Sam's while I cooked up a big pot of spaghetti. He come home in A Mood for some reason, which soured more when we discovered that we were out of onion powder and he had to go back to the store.

The email that he was told to expect from Potential New Boss arrived late Friday, which was not an in-person visit or a request to reschedule as he suspected it might be, but was a bit of homework for Interview #3, a powerpoint presentation. He stressed over it all weekend, but by Sunday night it sounded like things were on the right track.

Anyway, Sunday was a much improved day for everyone. The baby was in a fine mood, very cuddly and playful, napped without a fight, and was generally great. M slept all day again, waking up around 4:30 as I was making dinner for the baby.

I did a test use of the oven to see how much the house actually heated up when it was on. I made a roasted sweet potato for the baby, which stays in a hot oven for half an hour. The house didn't seem to warm up that badly, which is good news because I had been avoiding a lot of baked dishes for fear of making things unbearably hot. Making the spaghetti the night before actually heated up the house more. Of course, we only got up to 94 yesterday, so we'll see how that pans out once it's 105 outside.

While I was peeling the sweet potato, the baby spotted me working and then decided to bring me every sweet potato from the open bag one at a time. She would disappear around the corner and then come toddling back a couple of minutes later with a giant potato in her hands. She was very excited about it, and it was very cute. She eventually just ran off with the bag and tried to eat one of the potatoes raw, which I didn't catch until M came into the room and saw her sitting on the couch gnawing on a piece of raw potato she'd broken off. XD At least they're fine to eat raw, if a little challenging.

I had hoped to attend our barony's first Clothier's Guild meeting Sunday afternoon, but with M's sleep schedule being so entirely borked all weekend, that did not happen. Turns out, only one other person made it to the meeting, as others were all out of town or otherwise engaged. Maybe next month will work out better for everyone.

Neckline done!

I thought it would go quickly, but not that quickly!

I also continued cleaning the shower closet that I started cleaning yesterday and have wanted to clean for years, made English muffin bread (super easy King Arthur recipe), and strawberry jam. It was a busy day!

Squiggles

The sequin border for the neckline is done, and I drew some squiggles between the sequins to bead. I think I'm going to like it!

Border

I decided to just go ahead and sew sequins for the border for the neckline trim. I'll figure out the design later. The sketch has basically a squiggly line, which I have seen on dresses. One that I found and forgot to pin had sequins mixed in with the squiggles.

I thankfully enjoy sewing sequins!

Another bad night. Bad dreams, constantly waking up, too hot, too cold, baby's up again. Someday I'll sleep well again.

Baby was up early, so M and I were, too. Cooked her some sausages before getting ready and then was out the door. Very cute to see her waving bye.

M called just as I got to work to yell about the cats peeing on stuff. Will have to do a major scrub down of the cat closet, since there must be a reason they aren't going in their boxes.

Just over this week.

Next week is going to be busy. M has his third interview for New Job, and I have a follow-up appointment for the amnio. It's just going to be an ultrasound since the baby was too squirmy and active to get some of the measurements they needed before.

Still, it's a lot of Stuff, and I could just really use a breather from Stuff.

The whole meeting/early lunch situation worked out just fine yesterday, and I was able to get the baby down for an early nap before leaving to head back to work.

Because I took lunch so early, the rest of the day just dragged on forever. Got home and heated leftovers for M's dinner, but I wasn't in the mood to eat. Baby got a grilled cheese sandwich and some fruit. She struggled a bit to go to sleep; I think she could have used a second nap since her first was so early in the day, and that she was probably overtired by the time bedtime came around.

M was already in bed for a while before the baby went down, so once she was asleep I crawled into bed, too. I had been hoping to catch up on sleep, but I had a terrible night and feel even worse today. Hooray. Very tired, very spacey.

Can't wait for this week to be over.

Things

The machine sewing on the skirt is done. I want to hand sew the organza part of the seam and the hem. Still not sure what I want the beading on the bodice to look like.

I'm mostly used to my car being automatic, but I still don't approve. Shifting helps me focus when I'm fizzing, which I've been doing the last few days, and I have to focus hard on focusing while driving. It's weird, but shifting is just enough to keep my attention there. Thankfully, I'm aware of the issue and can force my attention where it needs to be, but I so miss having attention be natural.

Overall, I'm happy enough with the Subaru, but I really wish the Mazda 3 that came with a manual transmission had cloth seats. Leather seats in 120+ weather are worse than automatics.

I also figured out something about one of the air vents today. It's super skinny because of the giant stupid screen, not the traditional shape. I thought sliding the tab made it point down. It doesn't. It closes it. No wonder I didn't get much air from it. It moves side to side, but the only option is for it to hit you directly in your face.

Also, as much as I'm trying not to play with the air controls because it's a touchscreen that you have to look at instead of dials, auto air just doesn't work the way I want it to. It was fine in southern California, but just can't figure out what I need here. Yes, I need the air on my feet before ten minutes into the drive. And yes, I'm very fussy about the air. Running hot is not fun at all.

Tom is doing fine. He's getting better at hobbling naturally. I'm actually excited for his appointment on Monday to get his splint changed.

He doesn't know how to play, and can't really play much now, but I bought him a new toy, a base with a large spring and a ball. Sid stuck his whole head in it, and that was before he ate half the catnip plant I also bought. Poppy ate one of the feathers off the toy.

They're such good boys!

Baby was in rare form yesterday. I got home for my lunch break just as M was finished cleaning up a poo tsunami. Seems that she managed to take off her dirty diaper without taking off her clothes, and had made a mess all over the living room. As I arrived home, he'd just finished giving her a bath and scrubbing the living room. Yeesh.

I tried to put her down for a nap, but she flung her little leg up over the railing of her nap pen and was ready to make her daring escape when I scooped her up. -_- Like I said, rare form. Eventually got her down in her crib, which is still too tall for her to spiderman her way out of.

Was only back at work briefly when I got the email from the genetic councilor that the amniocentesis results had come back as normal. Hooray! I couldn't stand the thought of being at work the rest of the day after that, so I took the rest of the day off and headed home. M was grateful for this, and disappeared soon after I got home to take a very long nap.

The baby also decided she wanted a second nap (probably because she'd been awake some many times the night before), so I had a solid chunk of the afternoon to myself, during which I did absolutely nothing and it was great.

Dinner was ham, green beans, and Spanish rice, all things which took very little effort and time. Baby went down pretty easily for bed, despite having two naps, so she was a tired girl. After dinner I made a passing remark about wishing I hadn't finished off my ice cream the other day, and before I knew it, M had his shoes on and was on his way to the convenience store across the street to procure ice cream. So despite shenanigans at the start of the day, it ended on a nice note.

Today's nonsense is that the state jail inspectors have finally made their appearance, so things are a bit hectic, and M needs me home earlier than usual during lunch because he has a meeting he has to attend, so thinks are a tad wonky. Meh, it'll all work itself out.

Another Rose...

I decided I wanted to treat myself with another rose. I bought this one and brought home with me to enjoy. I put in a vase on my desk. The next day I went to see my rose and it had opened up so that it was as large as my hand and had this heavenly scent.

Of course I had to do a watercolor painting of this rose.
